Our Lady Honored with Grotto Mass at St. Edward Seminary in Seattle

The priests and parishioners of North American Martyrs, our apostolate in Seattle, honored Our Lady in a special manner on the First Saturday of October by offering Mass at the grotto of the former St. Edward’s Seminary.

Now a state park, the grounds of old St. Edward Seminary lie in a wooded area on the shores of Lake Washington, and offered a beautiful and peaceful setting for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The seminary grotto and its altar had been untouched since the closing of the seminary in 1976, and it is likely this was the first Traditional Latin Mass offered there since its closing.  A statue of Our Lady, from the seminary, adorned the altar.

Fr. Joseph Heffernan, FSSP, assistant chaplain of the community, offered the Mass with Fr. Gerard Saguto, FSSP, chaplain of the community, in choir. Beautiful images of the Mass are from Mr. Michael Curtis.
