Summorum Pontificum Convention, Guadalajara 2021

From June 11-13, 2021, FSSP Mexico and the International Una Voce Federation are hosting the 3rd Summorum Pontificum Convention in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

The theme of this year´s convention is I Will Reign through My Heart, The Sacred Heart and the Traditional Mass.

The event was scheduled for last year but had to be postponed due to COVID restrictions. Thanks be to God, it will be able to take place this year.

The highlight of the event will be the priestly ordination of Rev. Mr. Joel Pinto Rodriguez, FSSP by His Eminence Raymond Cardinal Burke on June 11th, the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Taking advantage of the Cardinal´s visit and the excitement generated by the first traditional priestly ordination in Mexico in many decades, an international convention on the Traditional Liturgy has been planned around this historic event.

The FSSP in Guadalajara organized the first Summorum Pontificum Convention in 2013, in which His Eminence Cardinal Juan Sandoval of Guadalajara participated. In 2017 the second Summorum convention featured His Excellency Athanasius Schneider. With the presence of Cardinal Burke at this year´s event and the collaboration of Una Voce International, there are great hopes that the convention can become more regular and continue to grow in scope and importance.

Cardinal Burke will deliver a keynote address “Priests after the Heart of Christ in Times of Crisis.”

Distinguished guests include Dr. Peter Kwasniewski, the popular author of many books on traditional themes, Dr. John Pepino, professor at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, Fr. Javier Olivera Ravasi, who hosts a very popular Spanish language YouTube channel, and Gregory DiPippo of the website New Liturgical Movement, among others. Simultaneous translation will be available for all of the conferences.

There will be a total of three Pontifical Masses, the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation, a sacred music concert, and the opportunity to take a tour of important Cristero sites within Guadalajara. There will be also be breakout sessions for homeschooling and Una Voce.

Felipe Alanis, president of Una Voce International will present on the challenges that lie ahead for expanding the Latin Mass in Latin America.

On Thursday June 10, there are optional events, including a special benefactor´s breakfast with Cardinal Burke with the theme “From strong families come strong vocations,” and workshops on serving the Traditional Mass and sacred music for the Traditional Mass. Participants can also elect to take a three-day Cristero tour from Monday to Wednesday after the convention. The tour will end at the basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

This exciting event promises to be an important boon for the work of the FSSP in Mexico and Latin America. Please pray for its success.
