Fr. Stinson’s Letter for Mother’s Day Mass 2020

Dear Friends of the Fraternity,

As Mother’s Day approaches and I ponder the most edifying examples of motherhood, my thoughts wander to rural Nebraska.

Virgin with Child, by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo

Just 23 miles from Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary sits the Carmel of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, which is home to a thriving community of consecrated religious women. Though these Carmelites are of course childless, they are truly mothers to our seminarians and priests.

We utterly depend on the daily prayers of these spiritual mothers as we strive to remain faithful to our vocations—and we know we can approach the Carmelites with any prayer request. In a sort of spiritual reciprocation, our priests are privileged to be Jesus to the nuns at the altar and in the confessional.

I ask, then, that this Mother’s Day, you keep in your prayers not only the many hardworking mothers you know, but also the devoted religious sisters whose prayers and sacrifices are raising up a steady stream of vocations for the FSSP.

We will honor all mothers—including spiritual mothers, earthly mothers, and, of course, Our Lady—with a Solemn High Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary on Mother’s Day, May 10th. We would like to honor your mother, whether she is living or deceased. Please use the form below to enroll her in this Mass. There is also space on the form for you to include the other special mothers in your life. You can click the beautiful image of Our Lady and the Christ Child above to download and print a card to send to those you enroll.

I’m hoping you can also include a donation to help us form more priests. Though it is not required, we would greatly appreciate it! Our seminarians strive to be good sons to Our Lady—and they rely on your generosity to fund their formation.

Thank you for your support! May God bless and keep the mothers in your life.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Michael J. Stinson

The downloadable Mother’s Day card above is for a special mother in your life. Please pass it along to someone who could use some prayerful support.
