Solemn High Mass and Confirmations at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Cathedral
The Most Reverend Andrew Cozzens, Auxiliary Bishop of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, generously offered to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Extraordinary Form in the Cathedral of St. Paul at 10am on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Bishop Cozzens confirmed more than 60 children from All Saints, our Minneapolis apostolate, and several other parishes of the Archdiocese, using the ancient rite of the Church.
A Traditional Solemn High Mass celebrating the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary followed the Confirmation ceremony. The majestic and beautiful Cathedral of St. Paul, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year, had not seen the Traditional Latin Mass celebrated in such glory in decades, and more than 1,000 of the Catholic faithful were in attendance at this historic event.
Bishop Cozzens made his entrance into the Cathedral at 9:30am and was assisted by the priests of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter, including Fr. Josef Bisig, FSSP, as his Assistant, Fr. Peter Bauknecht, FSSP, as Deacon, and Fr. Simon Harkins, FSSP, as the Master of Ceremonies. In addition, Fr. Timothy Coultier of the Archdiocese assisted as Subdeacon, and seminarians of St. Paul’s Seminary were acolytes and servers, assisted by altar boys from All Saints.
We offer our sincerest thanks to the good bishop for his generous assistance with both the Mass and Confirmations.
